University Updates November 8

Katherine Bearne had a big week for UOttawa. She was named a second team All Canadian for the first time and she was also named one of the Top 8 Academic All Canadians. Academic All Canadians are varsity athletes who achieve an average of 80% or higher. Each year, one male and one female athlete from each university are nominated for the Top 8 award and each conference selects one male and one female athlete as their representatives for the Top 8. Since the OUA has the largest number of universities of any conference, the competition was high but Katherine was selected. This is the first Top 8 for UOttawa in over 15 years. Governor General Julie Payette will honour the Top 8 group later when she will award them with the Governor General’s Academic All-Canadian Commendation.

Hannah Bruce and UVU played in the NCAA tournament on November 11th. The draw had them traveling to play #1 ranked Stanford. UVU fell 9-1, however, they were able to score on Stanford. This was notable because it was the only home goal Stanford has conceded at home and only the seventh goal against all season.

All our AUS players can be proud that CBU lost a close 1-0 match in the gold medal round of USports championship this weekend.

We can’t wait to have all this university experience back together next summer on the pitch with CITY. Best of luck at school, ladies!
