CITY Women:
In the NCAA, Hannah Bruce started in Utah Valley’s 2-1 overtime loss at Hawaii on August 19th and in their victory over Houston Baptist on August 20th. Hannah had an assist in their double overtime 2-1 loss to UNLV and anchored their defense in a tight OT 2-1 loss to CSUN.
Karah Fleet started for UMass Lowell in her August 20th rookie debut versus Army West Point which ended 0-0 after double OT. A pair of double OT games followed with a 0-0 tie against Bryant and a 2-1 win versus NJIT.
In the OUA, Katherine Bearne and Hannah Landry led the Ottawa Gee Gees to a 4-1 win in their home opener against Trent on August 26th then lost a tight match to the defending OUA champions UOIT 1-0 on the following day.
While the AUS is still in pre-season, City teammates Emily Campbell and Alexa MacLatchy of Queens will be trying to hold off Annika Monroe when the Acadia Axewomen travel to play the Golden Gaels. City coach Danielle Cyr will be coaching her MSVU mystics led by Mariah Wright when they play SMU’s Celina Cavadini and Nicole Theriault in pre-season action.
AUS pre-season continued with SMU’s Celina Cavadini and Nicole Theriault defeating MSVU mystics Mariah Wright and coach Danielle Cyr 2-1 on August 30th. Acadia’s Annika Monroe tied Queen’s Emily Campbell and Alexa MacLatchy 1-1 on August 28th. On August 31st, St FX fielded a half a team of City players when Chloe Brennan, Elise Brennan, Emily Fleming, Alex Gosse and Larissa White suited up for the X Women in their 1-0 PK loss to CBU. Also on August 31st, the Dalhousie Tigers with Stephanie Dyck, Madison Freschette, Haley Glazebrook, Jensen Hudder, Sydney Kenney and Lisa Sullivan lost 2-1 in PK to Mount Allison but bounced back for a 1-0 victory over the X Women on the following day. UNB’s Rebecca Duda and Sarah Moignard traveled to Quebec for a 3-1 loss at UQAM followed by a 0-0 tie with Concordia. On September 3rd, Dal had a convincing 5-1 win over SMU in the annual pre-season Charity Shield game
In the OUA, Katherine Bearne had both game winners in the Ottawa Gee Gees 1-0 and 6-0 victories over UofT and Ryerson. Hannah Landry anchored the defense for the shutouts. Alexa MacLatchy and Emily Campbell had a victorious home opener weekend for the Queens Golden Gaels, beating Laurentian 3-1 and Nipissing 4-2.
On August 31st, Karah Fleet’s UMass Lowell River Hawks lost 1-0 to Colgate while Hannah Bruce and the Utah Valley Wolverines lost 1-0 to Tulsa on September 1st. On September 3rd, Hannah had an assist in Utah Valley’s 2-1 win over Oral Roberts and Karah’s River Hawks shut out Sacred Heart 1-0.
CITY Men:
AUS pre-season starts with STFX X-men posting a 1-0 loss versus CBU and then a 1-1 tie versus UQTR. New to the team is Canada Games player Blake Fenton along with returning players Liam Elbourne, Joe Edgerton and Jack Eliot.
Acadia’s AUS pre-season began on August 27th with Axemen returning players John Attenborough, Sean Langille, Cooper Coats and Jack Nielsen defeating Mount Allison Mounties 2-0. Acadia then faced SMU Huskies Alex Black, Darien Rolle as well as one of SMU’s newest rookies and Canada Games player Cian Tousignant-O'Siadhail in two exhibition games coming away with ties in both games. Acadia finished up their pre-season with a win on September 3rd versus the Université de Moncton 2-1.
On September 4th, as part of the Dalhousie Tigers pre-season start up new players Arjun Sethi, Ahmed Abokar and Jacob Bolton joined returning players Freddy Bekkers, Will Fitzgerald, Kallen Heenan and Jamie Matthews in a Charity Shield match versus SMU Huskies. The result was a 3-0 win for the Tigers.
In RSEQ soccer, rookie Damon Robinson started out his regular season at McGill with a 1-1 tie vs Université du Québec on September 1st.
While in OUA play Cameron MacKinnon and Rory McParland are into their season at Queens with a recent 3-1 win versus Nipissing University. Meanwhile at Carleton University, Dondrae Fells begins his 3rd season with the Ravens with recent pre-season wins to vs Guelph and Montreal and a loss to UQAM.
In NCAA soccer Max Gross now a rookie at Brown University started their regular season with a 1-0 win over Bryant University.
