City player and volunteer honoured with an award each
Soccer Nova Scotia hosted its 2nd annual Night of Excellence on Saturday night, a night in which members of the Halifax City family were recipients of 2 awards.
True Sport Player of the Year (U8-U12) (Regional)- Owen Llewellyn-Brown
An U8 to U12 player who is a good sport and best exemplifies the True Sport principles go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone and give back. This award is not about the number of goals scored but rather the positive impact this player has made on his or her team.
Owen is a currently a grade 7 student at Gorsebrook Jr High and was a member of the Halifax City U12 Academy team. On the field Owen is a hard working player that helps bring the best out of his teammates. Owen's love for soccer is evident, as he gives back to the sport by helping with his brother's U10 team, serving as a role model for the younger players. Off the field, Owen is actively involved in the community, was a member of the Interact group focused "we act" activities for social justice and social change.
Volunteer of the Year (Regional)- Sharleen Nielsen
Recognizes an individual that has given their time to impact and grow the game in their region of the province.
Sharleen has been a long-standing manager and supporter of Halifax City Soccer Club, primarily working with her son Jack's team. Sharleen has organized the boys for tournaments, provincial competitions and, most impartantly, National Championships.
Sharleen is efficient, organized, and and consceintious, but her most noticeable trait is her devotion to every team member, and belief that all players have the opportunity to play. To this, she has become a stellar fundraiser to make sure that no boy is left behind.
To cap a fantastic evening, the Halifax City staff table was crowned champions of the soccer trivia that had been ongoing throughout the evening. Congratualtions to Owen, Sharleen and all of the award winners from the event.
