University Round Up: Weeks 4 and 5

Larissa White scores, Cameron MacKinnon makes debut

Due to Thanksgiving, there has only been one round of fixtures for most Halifax City players
 
Female:
 
Chloe Brennan and Elise Brennan of St FX headed into Thanksgiving with a 2-1 victory over Moncton. Both sisters have now started every game for the X-Women this season.
 
Solid performances from Celina Cavadini and Nicole Theriault could not help prevent SMU from suffering successive defeats to strong UNB and Acadia teams.

Paige Vincent and Sarah Moignard of UNB also went into the break with victories on the road, beating Dalhouse 1-0 and SMU 4-0. Rebecca Duda was still missing with a broken hand.
 
City and Dalhousie teammates Jensen Hudder and Haley Glazebrook both featured in the tight 1-0 loss to UNB. Hudder also played a full 90 minutes the following day in the agonizing 3-2 defeat to Acadia.
 
In ACAA action, coach Danielle Cyr suffered her first loss of the season in the hurricane on Tuesday night as MSVU fell 1-0 to Dal AC. Prior to the defeat the Msytic tied 0-0 with Holland College and destroyed Crandall 11-0. Kat Macias grabbed a goal while Katie Black and Abbey MacLeod also started all 3 games.

 
Away from the AUS, there was plenty of action for our Halifax City players. Catherine Bearne of the Ottawa Gee Gees played 3 games, all of which ended in a draw. Bearne started in all 3 games, scoring in the 1-1 tie with Carleton.
 
In Texas Hannah Fleet and Southern Methodist University also saw plenty of action. Fleet grabbed an assit in the 1-0 victory over SFU.  Fleet then started in a 3-1 victory over UCF, the 0-0 tie with Connecticut and a 2-1 triumph over Temple.

Hannah Bruce of Utah Valley suffered 3 single goal defeats, falling 1-0, 1-0 and 2-1 to Seattle U, CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon respectively.
 
Larissa White and Emily Fleming of Alabama State suffered a 2-1 defeat to Howard Bison before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory over Arkansas Pine Bluff and 9-0 win over Grambling State. White grabbed a goal and an assist in the rout.
 
Male:
Acadia athletes Corey Cadeu, Sam Gillis, John Attenborough and Sean Langille all featured for the Axemen in the 3-0 victory over SMU. Langille capped his performance with the final goal of the game. The quartet also all featured in the 2-2 draw with Dal the following day.
 
City club mates Darien Rolle and Alex Black also featured in the Acadia-SMU, playing the full 90mins for Huskies in the clash in Halifax. The pair also played the full game in the 2-0 defeat to UNB in Halifax.

Meanwhile, Freddy Bekkers and Kallen Heenan started for the Dal Tigers in the 2-2 draw with Acadia. Jamie Matthews joined the action in the second half while Will Fitzgerald and Ryan Merlin made the 18 man squad. All of these players were also involved with in Dalhousie’s 1-1 tie with UNB, Bekkers scoring his 5th goal of the season in the process.
 
Liam Elbourne and Joe Edgerton both started in St FX’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Moncton. Trailing 1-0 with 8 minutes left, the X-Men completed the turn around in added time when Elbourne provided the assist for the game winning goal.

Dondrae Fells started as Carleton overcame RMC 2-0 in Ontario. Fells also started in the 1-1 tie with Queens and the 2-0 win over UOIT.
 
Fells faced City teammate Rory McParland as he turned out for Queen in the 1-1 tie. McParland also featured in the 2-0 loss to Ryerson. Sam Abernethy and Cameron MacKinnon both returned from injury, straight into the Queens starting 11 as they beat Toronto 4-2.
