Thank You & Farewell to Ken Wharton

2015-03-12

The Club wants to acknowledge and thank Ken for his significant contributions to our programs and players.

Hello City Soccer members,

Hello City Soccer members,

We regret to announce that Ken Wharton has resigned as Director of Coaching at Halifax City Soccer.

Over the past four years, Ken brought a level of coaching and technical ability previously unseen by our club-and indeed  ourprovince.  Ken has instilled a will to win, and his legacy will continue for many years, particularly in his guidance and direction with our technical staff.  He fostered individual player growth, at all skill levels, and developed excellent programs for our club.

We will really miss Ken, and wish him and his family health and happiness in their future.

The Board and staff are considering all our options with regard to the technical direction of the club.  We are fortunate to have an incredibly strong technical team in place and do not see any big changes in the immediate future.  We are taking a team approach with each of us stepping up to ensure that consistency and consideration for the needs of our members is paramount.

We thank you for your loyalty to the club, and you will be among the first to know as any new developments unfold.

Janet Cullinan

What follows below is a personal message to all members from Ken:

"To the members of Halifax CITY Soccer Club:

When I arrived in Halifax in October 2010 I expected to stay for no longer than two years.  It ended up being four and a half years and would have been longer if not for personal reasons at home in England.

To Helen Middlebrook, Colin Bryson and now Janet Cullinan who have been our club presidents, and of our Board members I thank you for your support and friendship.

I will continue coaching when the time is right,  I’m not ready to hang up my boots at this time.

At CITY we have developed a club that expects Youth teams to be at Nationals every year, and at the same time be very competitive at T2A and T2B levels.  This will continue.

I have been very lucky to work with some good staff and volunteer coaches who have developed year by year.  The club will continue moving forward with parent support.
The support we receive from parent coaches, managers and volunteer helpers makes this club what it is today.  You will always be needed and always valued by the club.

The CITY women’s team are travelling to England at the beginning of May.  I’m looking forward to seeing them all.

For the people who I may never see again -  Thank you for making my family and me welcome in your beautiful country.

Good luck, and continue enjoying this great sport."
